#3: Three Things I Enjoyed This Week
featuring a bingeable true crime pod, long walks, and some motivating nostalgia
Hi friends. A short post this week as I eke out an overdue work deadline.
Drug smuggling in the 80s. An undercover FBI agent. Incredible journalistic sleuthing. The Cayman Islands, Panama, and Detroit.
Deep Cover has all the ingredients of an excellent podcast binge, and it doesn’t disappoint. Though I’m not a true crime pod devotee, this recommendation (courtesy of my husband, Kevin1) has completely taken over my free time this week. Making a cup of tea on a pomodoro break? I’ll take the 5 minutes. Walking to meet someone for a drink? A blessed 10 to catch up. I’m only on episode 8 of season 1, but I can guarantee I’ll be onto season 2 within days.
Listen here.
Returning to old music favorites
I’ve spent the week writing articles for a deadline and got sick of my normal jazz go-tos. I decided to listen back through the archives, belting out alongside Brandi Carlile while writing about reducing food waste and returning to TV On The Radio for some high school nostalgia. As expected, Wolf Like Me still slaps. It gave me a much needed boost when staring down my remaining assignments.
Getting out on very long walks
We are currently living near Hampstead Heath, a park formerly known to me for its pivotal role in Notting Hill. It’s wild and vast enough that you cannot hear cars from the interior of the park, which feels like it’s in the countryside, not in a city of 9 million. I’d forgotten how good it could feel to walk 5 or more miles at a time, preferably with something great to listen to (see above) at the same time.
Hampstead Heath is also the hot meeting spot for dogs, who frolic around leashless and free. Look at this mascot for good living:
IT’S TOO MUCH!
That’s all for now. I’ll be back on Monday. Thanks for reading and enjoy your weekend!
Someone please let me know when I can stop referring to him as my husband before his name and just use Kevin…I feel like the construction of “my husband, X” sounds like some weird self-congratulatory statement by someone whose goal was always to end up married but not putting it makes it sound like I think we’re celebrities.
Can't wait to check out Deep Cover: Never Seen Again. Could be an excellent listen on the loooong drive home. Right now bingeing Stone Blind audio version read by the author Natalie Haynes. It's phenomenal.
