I’m off this week exploring London and Somerset with my mom and so am leaving you today with a list of my favorite nonfiction page turners.
4 nonfiction page turners that read like thrillers
We had dinner last night with friends who are headed to Spain for 2 weeks. The wife plans to read as much as her 8-month-old will allow, so I rapid-fire listed off the books below, which read like thrillers. Not only are they perfect for lazy days by the beach, they make great audiobooks for long walks or cleaning, too. They’re not new, so you may have already read them—if you have any recs along these lines, leave a comment below!
American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal MasterMind Behind the Silk Road by Nick Bilton
It’s difficult to believe it, but a rabid commitment to libertarian ideals led Ross Ulbricht to found the biggest drug-selling website (like Amazon for illegal wares) on the dark web.
Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe
About the Troubles in Northern Ireland, brilliantly reported and beautifully written. (I wrote about this book a couple weeks ago here.)
Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover
Tara Westover was raised in a survivalist family in rural Idaho with no schooling at all. This chronicles her wild childhood through her eventual college and graduate education.
Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by Nick Carreyou
How Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos went boom and bust. The basis for The Dropout on Hulu in the US or Disney+ globally.
I’ll see you again next Monday. Thanks for reading!
